Re: Stock market rubes
Last time I took stock advice from a rube the stock went from $5/share to $.00001/per share in the matter of 6 months.
True story. I am still holding onto 100 shares of that worthless stock.

Re: Stock market rubes
I dabble.
My money guys handles my major investments (Roth IRA, standard IRA, etc...). I use an app to trade some stocks that doesn't charge a trade fee (they make interest off the uninvested money in your account). I only play with a few grand in there, though. It's mostly for fun. I've probably made 10-12% on my initial investment over the past year.

Hmm, seems late to the party on that stock. Fascinating rise tho, would've loved to have found it 4 years ago.
CLF
HEAVILY undervalued, and Mark Dayton made yet another economic blunder by supporting Chippewa Steel's bid for the bankrupt Essar Mine in the Iron Range instead of accepting CLF's bid that was less, but had more securitized financing. The owner of Chippewa still owes CLF $50 million for a mine they purchased from CLF 2 years ago but yet they will somehow resurrect a bankrupt $2 Billion project? Chippewa won the bid for the permits at the Essar mine but didn't actually buy the land, CLF just bought the land and now Chippewa has to buy it from CLF to ever mine it.... This Chippewa owner is all smoke and mirrors, he'll never succeed and CLF has been in the mining business for 170 years... They will get the Essar Mine someday for much cheaper than ever imagined. They are poised to get the windfall from any infrastructure bill since they produce the majority of domestic Iron Ore. It's a frustrating stock to follow due to the volatile price of commodities (and the day-to-day impact on the spot price) but it's a great long play.

Update: Don't listen to to a thing I say. My stocks are down about 1.5% on the day right now. I've got my go-bag ready just in case it gets worse.

Btw, your comment on GWPH is asinine. That stock is still super cheap.

At least we have one froob who is willing to admit he is amazingly wealthy, has multiple advanced degrees, is married to a supermodel (but has a few porn stars on the side), etc...

Far from amazingly wealthy, just the one advanced degree, assuming you don't consider a BA advanced, wife works in higher education, and the only porn stars I see are on the computer. But, its nice to know someone is jelly.jakazz30 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2017 9:03 pmbeetlebum71 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2017 10:32 amI dabble.

Re: Stock market rubes
The stock market is based on one thing, companies buying back their own stock. That was illegal at one time. We need to make it illegal again.

Beetle bum, what app is that?
Re: Stock market rubes
The economy and the stock market is based solely based on buying back stocks to inflate the price of those stocks without any growth. #FakeEconomy

There are a few like that, but the one I use is Robinhood. Pretty great. They have a cool promotion, at least for right now where when you sign up, they make you a link to share on FB or Twitter or whatever. If your friends sign up through your link (totally free, other than you need to deposit "something" into your account -- can be $1), then you both get a free share of actual stock. I think the value can be anywhere from a few bucks to around $200. I've seen a bunch of the links on FB recently. Might be a nice way to get started with the app if nothing else.

The truth hurts. Sucks to have a 401k plan. Bet i make more per year in bonuses than your 401k does. How much did your 401k make last year?

mlhouse has claimed all of that, minus the porn star thing.
